CUSTOMER CASE

UNITY Kista Campus, Stockholm (Sweden)

For its brand-new student community in Kista, Sweden’s main technology and business centre, Nordic property company UNITY wanted a modern, environmentally and user-friendly access solution. ASSA ABLOY Global Solutions’ Livvi App provided exactly that.

Customer:

UNITY is a Nordic property company that is looking towards the future. UNITY provides furnished apartments (a rare concept in the region) throughout the Nordic countries, with on-site access to advanced co-working areas and a wide range of facilities in an inspiring community. Providing top-rate functionality, aesthetic design, and cleverly designed apartments with direct access to an array of facilities, UNITY also prioritizes sustainable living in every aspect of their buildings - from construction to daily operations.

Challenge:

The UNITY Kista Campus is a brand new building that provides 357 furnished studio apartments and a variety of common spaces, designed by world-renowned designer, Tom Dixon. These include study areas, two-roof terraces, dining areas, a laundry room, indoor and outdoor bicycle parking and a bike café. Located in Kista, a district in Stockholm that is Sweden’s main technology and business centre, UNITY Kista Campus accommodates Swedish and international students who attend a variety of universities across Stockholm and Uppsala.

To match the modern design concept of the building and the company’s sustainability objectives, UNITY wanted a mobile access solution. This would mean that no physical keys would be required and that UNITY staff would not need to be present 24/7 at the site.

Solution:

The ASSA ABLOY Global Solutions Livvi App, designed especially for students, was the ideal access solution for the UNITY Kista Campus. The Livvi App works with ASSA ABLOY Global Solutions’ VingCard Essence locks. These have been installed on all 357 apartment doors at UNITY Kista Campus, while the VingCard Remote Controller, which also works with the Livvi App, has been installed on all common and perimeter areas.

By simply downloading the Livvi App onto their Android or Apple smart phones, students can use their phones to enter their apartments and common building areas. The off-the-shelf solution puts secure, encrypted mobile access front and center. It means that student accommodation owners can eliminate the headaches associated with lost physical keys or distributing and retrieving physical keys at the start and end of each semester.

The solution also means that UNITY can restrict access to areas like the roof terraces at Kista late at night. They can also reduce their environmental footprint by eliminating the need to produce any metal keys at all. For students who are concerned that they may lose their phones or that their battery will run out by the time they arrive home, plastic Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) key cards and fobs are still available.

UNITY now has seven properties across Sweden, Denmark and Finland. These include student accommodation and multi-purpose buildings that house hotels, furnished apartments and co-working spaces. The ASSA ABLOY Global Solutions’ VingCard Essence locks and Mobile Access are used to access all of them.

“When we as the property owner chose the access solution we looked at a modern, environmentally and user-friendly system that was also going to save us a lot of money. We don’t need any physical keys when we use the ASSA ABLOY Livvi App. It is very easy to program and also to delete a key if necessary. It’s a high security system because we know who’s entering our buildings all the time.”
